Set in the heart of Mayfair, Browns is one of the most historic hotels in London. It was founded in 1837 to provide 'genteel' accommodation for discerning people and joined the Rocco Forte Hotels collection of luxury hotels in 2003, having always had an air of exclusivity and refinement. Composed of 11 original town houses, the 117 bedrooms have been individually decorated in a classical English style. Agatha Christie was one of the many famous guests and regularly took tea at the hotel. She loved it so much, that she set her mystery novel "At Bertram's Hotel" in a thinly disguised version of Brown's. Wood panelling, open fires and graceful antique furnishings in the public areas combine to provide all the comforts and warmth of a country house in the heart of the city. The style of the guest rooms is contemporary, with natural materials used throughout and antique pieces providing traditional accents. A selection of books and original English paintings makes each room unique and provide a welcoming, homely touch. The renowned maitre d' Angelo Maresca welcomes guests to Brown's Grill, which serves simple English fare. While the restaurant retains its clubby feel, there is a much brighter, more airy ambience, thanks to whitewashed wood panelling, 1930s design features and banquette booths that provide both privacy and more space for diners.
